From time to time, birds, real or imagined appear in my work. I don't know much about them, but they are beautiful and intriguing in their myriad forms. This piece is one of those.
Inspired by robins and a woman who somehow reminded me of a robin. It was Springtime, a season when I think of full-breasted robins and the awakening they portend. The model and I worked together a bit before the shoot to make sure that the body suit I purchased and added "feathers" to would be comfortable for her, as well as making a partial cast of her head for an armature to build the mold for a latex mask. She had never modeled before and took the whole process quite seriously, practicing poses in front of a mirror at home.
We spent an afternoon shooting in my studio. Afterwards, I combed through photos I had taken on various trips that spoke to my sensibiilities for blending with images from the robin shoot. Next, I used actions and filters to create the finished effect.
Her husband loved the image so much, he used it as wallpaper on his phone. That pleased the model and myself endlessly.
Maybe, one day, this image will become a painting.
